Service before activation?

Okay, I recently got my phone. I bought it with the $65 a month plan. I'm 17. So my mom basically just typed in her information is letting me wing it. Well, I have my phone on and it's letting me text and stuff already without actually activating my phone?? How is this working.

If you're on wifi it's an iMessage

Some apps are able to work via wifi and do not necessarily need to have a cellular plan to function.

No it works while I'm not connected to wifi as well

Getting a new deivce is always exciting! What type of device did you get? Make/Model of the iPhone? Is your account a Prepay or Postpay account? Is your device shoiwng any signal: 4G/Lte, 3G, or 1X?
