Unbilled Usage from Previous Months
bostonbruins123

From my most recent billing statement (October 2-November 1) I was charged an additional $10 for "Unbilled usage from previous months".  I have a 2 GB plan for each phone, I upgraded from Samsung Galaxy on unlimited data plan to the iphone 5 on September 21.  My data usage for the month was 0.20 GB (rounded up to 1 GB), my "unbilled usage from previous months" was 1 GB (I assume also rounded), which totals 2 GB - I did not exceed my 2 GB limit, however I was charged an additional $10.  Please see screen shot below:

When you change your phone I think it prorated and 10 might be the overage rate because of the proration.

I could be wrong... If that is the case I would see if you really Desirve that fee.

If you make a change in the middle of the month after bill posted it will show as unbilled.

I just saw this on my bill for this month also and also upgraded to the Galaxy S3 in early September. They said when data pulls from towers, it's not always a Verizon cell tower, so the other towers they contract out with will bill out for using their tower. I also used to have unlimited data. I asked him if there was a way to set up my phone so it doesn't pull from non-Verizon towers and he said no. I also have the 2GB of data and haven't gone over it. They ended up crediting me the $10 back because I called to contest it.

Hi bostonbruins123!  I want to ensure you're billed correctly for your data plan!  On this bill, you should be able to change the GB usage to MB usage.  This will show you what you used and were billed for exactly (in MB's).  1 GB is equivalent to 1,024 MB's.  Since you purchased the iPhone 5 in the middle of your bill cycle, your data plan would have been prorated from the day you activated the device till the end of the bill cycle, 10/1/12.  The cost of the 2 GB plan and the data allowance would have been prorated as well.  You can see these prorations in the bill on the summary of charges for this mobile number.  Let me know if you still have questions regarding the bill.  I am here to help!  Thanks!

I'm having the same issue.  If this is indeed "prorated" why did I not receive a credit for the unused data from the previous month?  I had to pay $30 last month for 2Gb, then switched phones, and now I'm having to pay a total of $40 this month.  Verizon is just trying to get as much money out of their customers as possible by using this scam.  Quite frankly, I'm tempted to switch cell phone providers and have suggested that others never go through Verizon since this kind of thing happens all the time.

How is that I just received this charge for the first time?  I had an unlimited plan until I upgraded in December then settled for the 2GB plan.  I looked over all of my available bills online and found that even when I was on the unlimited plan never even came close to using 2GB.  When my plan changed mid December, my usage under the unlimited portion was 59.81 MB and under the limited plan was 1024MB.  Together that is still well below the 2048MB limit.  Anything prior to that was unlimited so it should not matter.  My usage in January says 1024MB so that is only half of the limit of 2048MB.  I see no reasonable explanation for this charge.  If I am receiving a delayed bill for previous charges that were unbilled, then it's wrong and I shouldn't be charged for it because those charges were incurred while I was on an unlimited plan.  Please help me make some sense of this.

Other providers prorate the exact same way.

I don't understand this "Unbilled data for previous months" stuff. I get these line items every so often but at least never have been billed for them. I don't know why they appear every so often.

It's my understanding that delayed billing most often occurs when you're on another carrier's network and there is a delay in when the carrier bills Verizon, resulting in a delay in when Verizon bills you.  I've only seen it once that I can remember on my bill, and that was when I'd been doing a lot of travel that billing cycle.
