Unlock iPhone 4s

I leave in Greece and someone gave me an iPhone 4s from the us but here it is locked..when i put my sim card it shows a message on the screen that says it is locked..i went to the mobile shop and they told me to contact with you..So what should i do? They told me something for a code..

Nothing you can do from Greece.  You must have the phone active on a U.S. Verizon account in good standing and then it will be internationally unlocked By Verizon.   We see this problem frequently, unfortunately.
