Using iPhone in Europe

Hi I would like to use an European eSim and my verizon phone only for wifi calling. Is it possible to set up the phone such that cellular and roam data is on the eSim and the verizon is only setup for wifi calling (when connected to hotel wifi)?

Thank you,

Install and active the eSim for cellular and data in Europe.  Can and if so, how do i configure the verizon phone only to allow wifi calling ?  Can i use the verison sim (iphone 11) in airplane mode and the eSim in "standard" mode.

nanoman9, you can certainly make use of eSIM and the Dual SIM capabilities of your iPhone. Apple runs through how to assign service to the different numbers/SIMs used on the device here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209044

One thing to keep in mind is, to use another service provider's eSIM, you do need to have your device unlocked with Verizon. Our devices are unlocked after 60-days, so if you've had your iPhone on VZ service and activated for more than 60-days since you purchased the iPhone, you'll be good to go on this end.

Thanks,  My phone is unlocked so that is not an issue.

I believe I know how to install / use the eSim in Europe. What I am questioning is how to use my phone with Verizon number to make wifi calls to the USA (while using hotel wifi). My understanding is there is no charge for international Wifi calling (which I have already set up).  Just want to use the WifI calling and not get charged for Verizon call / data.

Any instrucations / advice would be appreicated. Can I simply turn off Verizon cellular and data, and still make wifi calls?

That is definitely an important question, nanaman9. I know I wouldn't want to be charged while roaming similarly. The best recommendation I could make is to ensure that Data Roaming on your Verizon SIM is turned off. That means your phone cannot connect to a roaming network while abroad. This can be done under Settings > Cellular. I hope that this information helps.
