Verizon blocking prepaid users from buying phones at Apple.com

I was trying to buy a new iPhone through Apple.com and got the following message "We’re sorry. We can’t find your account information with Verizon. Please verify your Wireless Number and try again." Apple says it's a Verizon issue.
I've chatted online and over the phone with Verizon and they are saying my account is okay, but when I view my account at Verizon's website is says "Your account is inactive because you have missed a payment. You need to fund all lines on your account to reactivate your service."
This is ridiculous because my balance is $0 and I'm set up with auto pay. This is probably why the verification process on Apple.com is failing but no one seems to know how to fix it.

The solution to this issue is switching to another carrier. After speaking/chatting with 4 different Verizon reps, it is clear Verizon blocks prepaid users from purchasing through Apple so they can sell you the same phone at a higher price.
I will be filing a complaint with the BBB, FTC and FCC.
