Voicemail issue

Wondering if anyone has had any luck with this issue, since I'm going in circles.

I'm having major issues with retrieving my voicemails on my Iphone 15. Some of the voicemails land in my iphone voicemail app, where I can easily retrieve the messages like normal. Other ones go into the "back end" system, meaning I have to dial *86 to retrieve them, and those messages do NOT arrive on my phone. It's like there are two separate voicemail platforms, where there should only be one. I've been in touch with countless high-level techs at Verizon, and while they do certain things to try to rectify it, if they do repair it, it's short lived. Meaning, I get my voicemails on my phone like normal for maybe 2-3 days, then the same things happens - they start going to the *86 platform. It's not my phone, as Verizon originally shipped me a replacement Iphone 13 to replace my 13. Same issue. Then I figured I'd buy a new Iphone 15. Again, worked for a few days, same issue. So NOT an Apple issue. And the fact that once they do what they do to my voicemail system, it DOES work, but not for long.

If anyone has any tips, I'd welcome them. I've been dealing with this for about 6 months, with no real resolution. Even the guy at the local Verizon store said he's never seen a history of tech involvement and high-level escalation in his 15 years of being with Verizon.

Thanks.

Are the voicemails which only go to the *86 voicemail coming from landlines?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I monitored that and no, not always landline, and not specifically iPhone or Samsung

Hello, Djpvetter. Having issues with your voicemail can definitely cause some concerns. Help is here. Just to confirm, was there ever any 3rd party voicemail applications?

You're welcome.  Someone else posted recently that all voicemails from landline callers were only going to the *86 voicemail, which makes me think that there's something with older technology (copper wire or VoIP) which isn't compatible with the iPhone voicemail app - especially if you have visual voicemail turned on; there's something which can't be "translated" from the older tech?  I am not sure about this.

I found an old thread in the Apple Community about not receiving voicemail notifications and the solutions posted were:

  • Have your carrier reset the voicemail on their end: which Verizon has done for you a few times, and doesn't seem to be helping in your case
  • Reset your voicemail password
  • Check your Deleted Messages box and permanently empty it; your app cache may be full and therefore causing things to not work properly

I had many problems with retrieving voicemail (*86 method indicated there were no new voicemail messages, and trying to access my Verizon voicemail from a land line stopped working).  Only visual voicemail worked.  The solution? Turning off the live voicemail feature on my iphone!!!
