Weak iPhone X reception.

my iPhone X is weaker than my old iPhone 5.  Since switching to the X I often need to go outside to keep phone conversations connected. Even outside it’s distorted and weak. I swapped out the first X for a new one, same issue. when I put my sim card in my old 5 it works like a charm. Anyone else have this problem? What is going on?

I wonder if you should go to a corporate store and try a new SIM card. Then perform a reset network settings.

While there, download OpenSignal. See if they will download OpenSignal on one of their iPhoneX on display.

Compare signal strength of both phones.

It's probable, your iPhone5 was using a different band of frequencies to hit the tower than the new device.

Going to a corporate store makes a lot of sense.

Thanks.

Very strange. I assume you have HD Voice turned on but I would suggest turning it off to see if there is any difference and then back on again.

I went to the Corporate Store. I was getting four bars in the store!

I explained my situation, I was given a new sim, they turned off advanced voice (?) and checked all settings. They assured me all was well.

My my first try at home, fail!

I guess I’ll go back to my 5.

We don't want this to be an ongoing problem on that device. Are you having this distorted sound issue on your calls in a specific place or everywhere that you go? Does this happen on certain calls or all calls?

I havent havent had the phone long, so I didnt use it all that much. It is clearly a problem at home. At least half my calls required going outside to be heard. Even outside the calls were not always clear.

The other area I had problems was at work. I work in a single story building. I would have to go to the front door to make a good connection.

I didn’t notice the problem elsewhere but I make the vast majority of calls from home, work or outside.

If I only had the problem at one location I’d try to consider local issues. But it fails at home and work so I’m doing the unthinkable. I’m going Android.

I’m in zip area 12550. I’m not sure if others are having trouble. No one in my family is, all iPhone 6 and 7 users.

I have ordered a Pixle 2. The idea of a work around on a $1K+ phone is not appealing.

I hope that does it for you. If others in your family with iPhone6 and 7s are not having issues, then I wouldn't be surprised if your iPhoneX had an antenna problem or modem problem.

People think these are commodity devices, coming off an assembly line, each one exactly alike. I think these are assembled by people, in different locations, with different lot / revision sub-assemblies. I bet they are not all created equal.

Please let us know if the Pixel 2 works more reliably for you.
