You can add the Family Base option for $5/month (first month free), and you can restrict data/voice/text use based on time schedule or amount.

Many phone have a battery saver option, which also restricts background data.
IF you open setting, data usage, scroll to apps, select each app and check box to restrict background data.
email and social media has to be set with the app to use wifi for video and picturges, sync less often, etc.
close apps that use a lot of data. Video and GPS are big users.

Is there any way to restrict data on one line without paying more money for a family monitoring plan? I have no interest in any of the other services the plan offers.

Not less you can set some restrictions on the phone itself. There's nothing you can set up the account level to restrict data without adding the family base feature. You have to ask yourself if five dollars a month extra is going to save you more than five dollars a month in the long run

I honestly don't know if it will. I think its entirely unreasonable for
this fee to be charged for an obviously needed feature like this. Thanks
for the reply. Hopefully eventually they will be compelled by law to offer
this without additional cost as they have been for so many other features
they tried to charge us for in the past.
