My phone fell between the couch cushions yesterday. The couch reclines and with the cushion in the down position, I could not see or touch the phone. So I started to raise the couch and I heard a crunching sound and the phone fell to the floor. When I picked it up it looked as though the back of the phone had been hit by a bullet. The front of the phone is fine, no damage I am concerned that if there is a hole, even a tiny one in the back and if water were to ever get inside the back of the phone it could potentially damage the interior components.
The phone is covered by the original Apple Care warranty because it's less than a year old. I was told that I have to file a claim with Asurion, which I have done. Has anyone ever had any issues with them?

Sorry to hear your iPhone got cracked like that. I'd have to think the factory warranty from Apple would only cover manufacturing defects and hardware failures occurring within the first year and not damages. I don't have the insurance because my phone is a BYOD "don't laugh, it's paid for" thing, but from what I've read, Asurion would want you to use an authorized repair shop if the phone can be fixed, or I'm guessing they would send you a replacement. If you get a replacement, it may or may not be refurbished.
I'm not a Verizon employee, just another customer trying to help.

I'm going to an Asurion repair shop on Saturday, hopefully they can fix it.
