I have the same problem. I am using an iPhone XR, with the latest iOS update. This happens mostly when I text my mom, who doesn’t have a smartphone. However, it also happens occasionally with other people. My mom also has Verizon. I’ve noticed is that Apple automatically turns anything that seems like it could be an event time, into a type of link that I can press and add it to my calendar. For example, this morning I texted my mom and asked if she wanted to chat “this morning.” iPhone turns “this morning” into an underlined hyperlink to my calendar. I’m starting to think that this may be a huge part of this issue others and I are having.
I am not using emojis because I learned that messes it up. No special characters, no language other than English. I keep messages to her fairly short, so I’m joy going over the character limit at all.
The only thing has that has just started to make sense is these calendar hyperlinks. This morning, I sent my mom 4 texts. She received them all, but the one that said “this morning” came through as “hieroglyphics.”I’m going to try and figure out if I can turn that feature off in the messages settings.

I know the importance of staying connected with your mom, MaeBelle77. Upon review it does not appear thre is an option to turn off the auto-Calendar link. I will file these details with our Product Team so we can continue working with the manufacturer on a fix.
