my iphone se voicemail isn't working

my visual voicemail all of a sudden quit working.  It just says calling voicemail.  Then when I try to enter my number it says it doesn't recognize my number.  Apple support says it's a carrier issue.

We absolutely want you enjoying access to your voicemail. How long has this been going on for? Did you try restarting your phone since this occurred?

It started Thursday or Friday.  I called apple support and they said it was a carrier issue.  I went to the Verizon store where the phone was purchased.  The lady helping me said her computer said visual voicemail would be unavailable on the Apple 5 SE phones until November 18??????
