when I talk to my boyfriend on the phone. We share an account. When he is not talking there is this like disconnected silence. When he talks its like normal you know that your connect to him. Background noises things like that. It doesn't happen every time we talk but most of the time. It doesn't happen when I talk to anybody else. What can cause this silence? We both have the iPhone 7.

Silence isn't what we want when trying to have a phone conversation, MS_TRACY_B. You've come to the right place. As this is isolated to calls with one person, let's dig into this further. What audio source (i.e. device microphone, bluetooth, speakerphone, etc.) is he using when he's on the phone? Is he able to hear you during your parts of the conversation? Are others experiencing the same on calls with him?

And you're certain they're not just muting the phone when not speaking? From the way you describe the audio, that's what I would assume. And I assume this is with speaking directly into the phone, not through any kind of headset? Some headsets will only transmit audio when spoken into. If you're certain that they're not muting or using a headset, the only related thing I could think of would be the following setting on his phone that you could try changing:
Settings > General > Accessibility > Phone Noise Cancellation

Sometimes his phone sometimes he's on his headset. I thought he was muting or had the some sort of push to talk app but he says no to both. I don't have this problem with anybody else and nobody has said anything about it. we do both have the same identical headsets, they are the blueparot 450 I think

MS_TRACY_B, thanks for the extra details. I definitely understand how this could be a nuisance for you. When you hear the silence on your end is your boyfriend able to hear everything you are saying and vice versa?

MS_TRACY_B, that certainly is a strange occurrence. Typically, when there is complete silence the mute option is active. There also apps that have Auto Mute abilities when not talking or while texting (Gaming apps, Google Hangouts among others). We would need to get a closer look at his device to see why it's occurring. If he has services with us, have him reach out to our Twitter handle listed below via DM and we can check his apps.
