My iPhone6s keeps powering down, at random times, even when it has an ample charge. It also gets very hot when it is just sitting idol and I'm very worried about this. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do about this?

Kerriek,
Hearing that your son’s phone is overheating to a point where it is now affecting the housing is definitely alarming. As Weth has suggest, we do recommend that you to take the phone right away to a corporate VZW Store, http://www.verizonwireless.com/stores/ , or an Apple Store. I will however send you a private message to take a closer look at your son’s iPhone . I look forward to working with you.

Kerriek, let's look further into this and get this resolved. Did anything specific happen right before this took place (software update, new applications, device changes)? Please share what current software version the device is running here http://vz.to/22RW0EN Thank you.

It is my sons phone so I will have to get with him and send another reply. I'm not sure what software version he is running.

Hi, I have checked and nothing was happening when it shuts done. I was watching and the phone had a 90% charge and just turned off and the only way to power it back on is to plug it into a charger, but it then gets VERY hot and looks like the battery may be starting to bulge from the heat. the software version is 9.3 (13E234). this phone is not that old at all and I'm very worried that it may catch fire or something...as I am now hearing they have been doing.

Oh my, kerriek. That would have me concerned as well. We definitely want to make sure your son’s phone is working properly and is a safe phone. Let’s continue to work on this together. Has there been any physical or water damage to the phone or charger? How long has this been happening?

No, there has been no physical or water damage to the phone and this just started about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was working fine before that. I even bought a new charger last week and cord to see if that may have been the problem, but it is still doing the same thing. Just randomly shuts down for no reason and stays very hot. I'm afraid for him to have it but unfortunately we need him to in case of emergencies and stuff.

kerriek, If it were me I'd restore the iPhone back to factory settings with iTunes. If the problem continues after that, then it would be a good indication of a hardware problem.

Do you have Apple Store nearby? Since phone is less than a year old it is covered by Apple's warranty as long as there is no physical or water damage. If the restore doesn't work, I would strongly advise taking it by an Apple Store. If you do not live near an Apple Store, call Apple customer service and let Apple take care of the warranty. I think you will be happier going that route. Even if you did not buy the phone at Apple, they will still take care of the first year warranty issues and they are very good about it.
