since the last update, my phone now has a restriction on certain websites, i need a passcode (4 digit ) I have never used this before nor have i set up one before. I don't know what the passcode is. I have tried several times guessing what I think it might be. but I keep getting locked out. I have one more time to guess and I will be set back to factory reset. what can I do? thanks
Teresadg, this sounds real puzzling. I would be concerned as well with having to use a pass code to visit websites. Can you tell me more. So, are you saying that not all websites ask for this code? Pleases clarify if these are websites or applications? Are these applications downloaded from the Apple Store? If so, have you tried to take off the application and re-install it back to the device?
This is a security feature of Apple devices. It is located in the General settings under Restrictions. It allows you to control access to different levels of the phones security, to prevent others from accessing or changing settings or accessing certain other aspects such as certain website etc. It is odd that it enable itself after an update though. When you go into the Restrictions settings it is only giving you the option to disable it? When you set up Restrictions, it requires you to enter the 4 digit code twice as a safety precautions. Has someone else had access to your device? I don't believe there is any other way around disabling the Restrictions without the code.
it is only certain websites. not all. it asks for a four digit passcode, which I did not ever set up myself. I did not ever have this problem before the update. was able to access any site. it is just now that I have this problem. it is even on certain news sites. I even tried to reset my phone and reinstall everything back from Itunes without the encryptions. it said it would leave off all my passwords on my phone. WELL it did. it left off every password for every app. even the password to my phone to open it. but not this restriction code. it is so weird. I really do not want to do a factory reset. but i do not have the code. and I only have one chance left to guess. I am going to try and visit a verizon store tomorrow. not sure I will get anywhere with them.
no one else has accessed my phone to be able to do it either
Theresa, I appreciate all the steps you have taken so far. I would like to save you a trip to the Verizon Wireless store. Since this is an Apple update and process, I would like to refer you to reaching out to Apple first. This situation possibly can be remedied over the phone or online. You can reach them at http://spr.ly/6580Dbsms .
