BASIC PHONES ARE BEING PHASED OUT!!

CLEARLY VERIZON WIRELESS AND THEIR PHONE MANUFACTURERS ARE FORCING THEIR LOYAL CUSTOMERS TOWARD THE "SMART PHONE",  THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A MARKET FOR BASIC PHONES AND NOT EVERY CUSTOMER HAS THE DESIRE NOR THE NEED FOR A SMART PHONE!!  THE LACK OF QUALITY AND CHOICES FOR BASIC PHONES TODAY IS PROOF OF THIS!  THEY ARE IGNORING THIS MARKET SEGMENT AND PUSHING LOYAL CUSTOMERS INTO SOMETHING THEY DO NOT WANT.  (THAT EXTRA" DATA PKG" FEE MIGHT BE THE EXPLANATION....) wink, wink!!

POOR COMPANY MANAGEMENT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE PROBLEM HERE AND IT COULD BE EASILY FIXED IF THEY WEREN'T SO GREEDY AND DISINTERESTED IN SERVING THEIR CUSTOMERS ADEQUATELY!!

MAKE THIS RIGHT VERIZON!!

THERE ARE OTHER WIRELESS PROVIDERS YOU KNOW???

You always have choices. Go to http://www.consumercellular.com or http://www.T-Mobile.com or http://www.sprint.com

Even AT&T has basic phones http://www.att.com

Consumer Cellular may be your best bet. And don't forget prepaid is also a choice for you.

Good Luck at your new provider.

Do these companies have more to select from than Verizon, in the basic phone market?  If so, then I will look into changing!

I see Consumer Cellular commercials with Connie and Jack every day. She carries a smart phone and he carries the basic phone. Check them out at any Sears store.

If you go to the other carriers websites there are 800 numbers. Just call that number or a local cellular store and they can tell you.

Good Luck

Connie and Jack ...

OP, I agree with you wholeheartedly; basic phone users should have options, too. If you want to keep your Verizon service, why not buy a basic phone off contract from eBay, Amazon, etc.?

If you do decide to switch carriers, another option is to buy an unlocked GSM basic phone (they are typically very reasonably priced) from Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc. and use it on any GSM carrier (Verizon, Sprint and U.S. Cellular are not GSM carriers, they are CDMA). GSM carriers you can try include T-Mobile, AT&T, Straight Talk (ST has CDMA and GSM services) and a handful of regional carriers (in my area, Airfire Mobile lets users bring their own GSM phones). A bonus to using an unlocked phone is, if you travel internationally you can just pop in a local SIM for local rates.

Good luck!
