I have a 10GB plan where i pay $40/mo for my two smartphone and $30/mo for my basic phone .... i own both phones.  I dont get why i am paying 2x for my basic phone on my share plan.   Verizon is costing me $160mo while ATT offers the same for $145 and T-Mobile for $120.

and .. ATT just announced they are doubling data for the same cost ... s $130/month used to get 15GB and now they are giving you 30GB/month for as long as you have the plan.  Have been with VZ for almost 15 years but its not making sense any more - especially the $30/mo basic phone charge.

You say BOTH phones but mention 3 phones. Is the basic phone off contract yet? If it was it would also get the $25 month2month discount. Making your plan $135

The at&t plan is $130 that's not counting the line fees.

Go here Cell Phones, Smartphones & the Largest 4G LTE Network - Verizon Wireless scroll down to where it says Why Verizon, click the 2nd red dot

Or Log into My Verizon, click Change Features and click the basic phone line and activate month2month discount

Why? Maybe they are trying to get people off basic phones. Eventually people will have to. When Verizon shuts down it CMDA network what will people with basic phones connect to? 75% of all phones on Verizon's network(a sof June 30th ) are smartphones. That percentage increases monthly. 90% of all phone activated are smartphones. That's the trend. Who makes basic phones anymore?

When they shut off basic phones on Verizon my husband will be up the creek so to speak. He does not really use the internet period so a smart phone is a waste for him. He does a few things on the computer but that is about it. We have very little calling but he does need the unlimited texting so for that reason unless trac phone offers unlimited texting that won't be an option.

Out where he works in the boonies the only service that works is Verizon or I would just get him unlimited talk and text from T-Mobile for $30 a month but he has 2 more years until retirement and we like the Verizon network when traveling. I was on T-Mobile prepay with unlimited 4g with no data cap for a few years but just came back to Verizon. T-Mobile was a nice deal as I was only paying $50 a month for unlimited everything and 3 gigs of mobile hotspot but some places I go I was only getting 2g and the internet would hardly work and I notice those same places with Verizon I am getting 3g and not really that much slower than 4g LTE so find that to be much better. I had no trouble with calling and texting on T-Mobile any where I have traveled it was just the internet so in some respects you get what you pay for. Here I have heard a lot of people complain about AT&T and sprint service not working as good as Verizon. Mary

You are getting a $25 discount on the smartphone lines ($40-$25=$15), assuming you are on the Edge program or off contract for these 2 lines. That discount is not avail for basic phones.
