Can I activate a different device without going to a Verizon store?

I have two basic phones. One I purchased about 10 months ago in conjunction with a prepaid plan. I was unhappy with the prepaid service and wanted to switch back, but I was told I had to wait six months before I could use the phone for a regular plan. So I used an old phone. It is beyond that six month period, and I want to switch my service to that newer phone. Can I activate it myself (*228), or must I go to a Verizon store? Will my service service automatically switch from one phone to the other?

Rick1031,

You can do this without going into the store. As HappyHelper stated you can dial *228 opt 1 to activate the phone. Or another way is to log onto your My Verizon and on the main page, on the left hand side under the "Manage My Device" section there is a link you can click saying "Activate or Switch Device" This will walk you through the steps to switch them out as well. Hope this helps.

When you call *228 on the one you want activated it'll ask what number you want to program it to so you just type in your number and password/ssn and it should activate. If it doesn't, customer care can help switch out the devices but they have crazy hold times lately.
