Data plan needed for Samsung Rogue, Samsung Reality, or LG Env Touch?

Hello all,

I am searching for a replacement for my Samsung Brightside, which has started having speaker buzzing problems. I am still under contract, having had the phone for only 16 months, so I am looking for a good used phone to purchase. I found the Samsung Rogue, Samsung Reality, and LG Env Touch have features I would like to have in my basic phone. A data plan is not an option for my phone though, and we have a total data block on our plan. So my question is, as of right now, what is Verizon's policy on a data plan for these three phones? I am finding conflicting information from the searches I have done, but there is no info on these phones less than a couple of years old at least.

Hello OhioVerizon. Thank you for reaching out to us about these possible replacement devices for your line. With regards to data plans, those phones used to be considered multimedia devices, and used to require a data plan. When these phones are added to the account, they may populate with that older plan, but they can be registered to the account without it, alongside with your data block feature.

Thank you, Nicandro. I do have one question for clarification. What does it mean to "populate with the older plan"? Does this mean that, when I try to replace my current phone, that it will automatically sign me up for a data plan when activating one of these phones? I understand that the data block will stop me from using data, but I don't want to be signed up for and pay for data that I won't be using. I would like to keep my current plan with no changes, and right now it does not include any data plan at all. It is one of the basic family sharing plans with limited minutes and unlimited texting, and no data allowance.

Thanks for your help and input!

Yes, it will add the data plan to the line. However you can then just call customer service at 1-800-922-0204 from another phone or *611 from your phone and the reps will remove the data plan and add the data block.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Be prepared to pay top dollar for those phones used.  Tried to get one for my husband and kept loosing out in bidding wars as I was not willing to go over $100 for a used phone.  Luckily I found someone with an ENV3 laying around that was hardly used and they let me have it for $10.  Mary
