Don't want to pay large data pack fee but need to get email. Don't need apps

I currently have an older Samsung model, I think is EV2?.  I like the smaller size and I can get emails on the phone.  I think I pay maybe $10 a month for this feature.  I hate to replace the phone because everything seems to have the $30 data package charge on 99% of the phones.  It gets so confusing when you talk to ataff on phone stores and I cannot digest all the stuff from MB amount to KB to GB.  Can anyone suggest a smaller size phone that would have capability to receive email without paying $30 data fee each month?  I presently have 3 phones on fam plan and once has smart phn with the $30 charge and I am paying over $180 a month and I do not want to be at the $200 plus charge each month.  I don't mind Verizon service because I had tried many other service providers over the last 15 yrs or so and Verizon has always been the best service and rarely do I have a dropped call or loss of service.

If there is nothing wrong with your phone, then why change?

Another option is to get a phone off ebay...you wouldn't have to use an update and it wouldn't require a contract. The env line of phones were good...I loved my env3.

E-mail required the internet.  Internet requires a smartphone and data package.  Under the old pricing structure, the smallest data package is 2GB for $30.  Under the new Share Everything plans, the smallest data -ackage is 1GB for $50, but you can share with other devices.  You should click in Shop above and check out the plans.

Verizon offers an email service for non-smartphones called Mobile Email. According to this Gizmodo article (link is below), it apparently was initially compatible with only certain of the non-smartphone models available at that time.

At the present time, every one of the non-smartphone models  listed on Verizon's website is listed as having Mobile Email compatibility.

As far as finding out what discontinued phones are compatible with Mobile Email, phonescoop lists this. For example, search for the Intensity II at phonescoop.com Halfway down the page, phonescoop says "Email Client: Yes"

On our Samsung u370 (aka Samsung Reality) and Casio Ravine 2 non-smartphones, Mobile Email is pre-installed as an unactivated app in the Media Center section of the phone.

I don't know what Mobile Email currently costs, but according to that Gizmodo article when it was launched it cost $ 5 per month.

If you are paying $ 10 a month, then you might be paying for the $ 9.99 per month data plan that for awhile Verizon required for a few models of non-smartphones that Verizon categorized as "Enhanced Multimedia Phones" such as the Samsung Rogue, the Samsung Reality, the LG Touch, and the LG enV 3.

According to both customers and Verizon employees on here, Verizon no longer requires this data plan for those particular models and does not require a data plan for any of the non-smartphones listed on Verizon's website.

The reason I suggested also looking at some of the discontinued phones on ebay and elsewhere, like the env line, is because several of those multimedia phones were good for e-mail and mobile web use due to their full keyboards and screen size (at least as far as non-smartphones go).  You can find several of them new in-the-box on ebay.  There are several threads on this forum, some of them within the past couple of weeks, giving pros/cons + good/bad of the current line-up of basic phones.

I'm not sure which data package you have, but if it's the $10 Valuepack that became available a year or so ago, be sure to work with Customer Service to ensure that it transfers over to a new phone because I don't believe that feature is still available.
