Family Locator on Samsung Convoy 2

I have added a Samsung Convoy 2 phone to my plan. I try to make the phone a "locatee" in Family Locator but the online software says it is cannot be a locatee. Now, I have two "Samsung Convoy" phones. Each of them can be made into "locatees" .

Is this a bug? Does Verizon allow the Samsung Convoy to be located in family locator but not the Samsung Convoy 2.

(The Samsung Convy 2 is identical with the first edition, it is just a little updated.

Has anyone else had this problem?

The message states,

"buy capable device"

This confuses me because the Samsung Convoy is capable, so the Samsung Convoy 2 should also be.

Hello TomDooling,

Yes that's correct. The Samsung Convoy is a Family Locator-Locatee device; however, the Samsung Convoy 2 is not a Family Locatee device.

Thanks,

Hello LatachaM_VZW,

I feel I was tricked by Verizon. I wanted a Samsung Convoy, but
was directed to the Samsung Convoy 2 in the store.

It was the "upgrade." Since the Convoy can be a locatee, it makes sense that the Convoy 2 should also be a locatee.

The folks in the store seemed to think that.

By the way, there is no reason why it should not. It is a
software issue.

Also, it is not clear what phones can be locatees. There is a
page that will show you locatee capable phones, but it is hard to find. In fact one link to upgrade your phone takes you to a site with phones that are not locatee capable.

In the end, I think Verizon is just plain lazy  with regard to, and uninterested
in, the concerns of people who need this feature.

You advertise it, but do a poor job of making clear what phones can be locatees.

This is a totally different problem, but I can relate to the issue of the Convoy having features you expect to find in the Convoy 2.  My husband has the original Convoy.  I also "upgraded" to the Convoy 2.  I found it very frustrating  when his older cell phone will use Bluetooth Wireless Technology to connect with our new Nissan car, while my "newer and upgraded" Convoy 2 is incapable of connecting!  I talked with Samsung, Verizon and even Nissan; and yes, they say the problem lies with the Convoy 2.  What a disappointment.  Sad to say, your problem frustrates me, but doesn't surprise me.  Hope you can get it resolved.

Have a good day.

"What phones do my family and I need to use Family Locator?"

http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/faqs/Features%20and%20Optional%20Services/family_locator.html...

"With the latest version of Family Locator, you can locate any Web-capable mobile phone on your family’s account with no additional setup required.  However, you’ll get more detailed results with phones that are fully compatible with Family Locator. We’re adding more fully compatible phones all the time."

This morning I visited the website (see the link below) for the Family Locator app, and currently the Convoy 2 is listed as a fully compatible Family Locator phone. Technically, though, Verizon's answer that I quoted makes it sound like ANY phone is at least partially compatible with Family Locator as long as that phone is a "Web-capable mobile phone". The link below has further information on the features that are still available to phones that are only partially compatible with Family Locator.

The Convoy 2 with Family Locator will do the area-based location AND the precision location too. The Convoy 3 will do the area -based location ONLY and NOT the precision location. An update when the Convoy 3 was activated may have disabled the precision location capability. The fourteen days are not up on the Convoy 3.
