How to correct a NAM2 lockout on a Samsung Brightside?

My son got locked out of his phone by selecting a NAM2.  It is now asking for a security code which doesn't exist.  How do I find a code to unlock his phone?

You may need to take this in to a Verizon store and have them restore it. You may lose all your contact information and other settings, so hopefully you've been backing up regularly!

I did find this -  http://www.eirp.org/sch-a310/nam2.html  and the recommended fix is to take it to Verizon.  There are steps given to fix it on your own - do so at your own risk.
