Do you have an available line for the phone? If so, you should be able to activate it via your on-line MyVerizon account. If you need a new line, you'd need to contact Customer Service about adding a line to your account first.
I'm sure that made your son happy, phonetree! The best option would be to go to vzw.com, sign into your account and select 'Add New Device' from the boxes below the picture of your phone. Just follow the instructions from there. Have a great day!
