LG Cosmos 2 - VN251

Hello!

Last week I purchased the LG Cosmos 2 and for the most part I am quite fond of the phone. However, I've noticed the phone has a horribly long charging time.  It will take up to a few hours for the phone to completely charge.  Today I plugged it in at 4pm and now, at 8:30pm it still is not reading as fully charged.  Is this somehow normal?  Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks!

MissaDucky,

Hello and welcome to the community!

The charging time may be completely normal. If the battery is close to draining (like 10% or less) then yes, to charge 100% may take 4+ hours. For optimal charging time, you want to use the wall charger provided with the phone, rather than the USB cable.

I hope that helps! Thanks!

Completely normal for a new battery. Just give it time and the charge should get lessened, it's still in the process of being calibrated!

As the representative stated, welcome to the forums!

LG Cosmos 2 - VN251 problem receiving calls

Got my first Cosmos 2 on Tuesday and it has a peculiar problem neither tech support, the Verizon store, or LG have a clue about and cannot seem to fix.  If the phone is powered off for more than about a half hour, when it is powered up again the phone will not receive calls.  Calls made to the phone are immediately routed to voice mail.  There is no indication on the phone that this is happening.  If I then make an outgoing phone call, the phone will thereafter receive calls normally.  All the missed calls and voice mails then show up on the phone.

On Thursday I brought the 1st phone back to the store and described the problem.  They checked that call forwarding was off, which it was.  They claimed they had seen a number of cases of phones forwarding calls to "non working numbers" and that this had happened even if call forwarding was not selected.  They suggested that if problem reoccurred, I should dial *720 which cancels call forwarding.

During the day on Thursday I turned the phone off and on periodically to see if the problem reoccurred.  It kept recurring.  Nothing prevented it, not dialing *720 or *920 either.  Only making an outgoing call fixed it.

I called tech support from my land line while the cell phone was not receiving incoming calls and demonstrated the problem.  Tech support said he had never had this problem before,  Had me go through the activation menu and update roaming.  Had me read off the settings from a service menu.  He was seemed stumped.  He suggested it might be a hardware problem and that I should swap the phone for another.

Friday morning I brought the 1st phone back to the store, and demonstrated the problem again.  They gave me another Cosmos 2,  I went home,  turned this phone off for a half hour, and bingo - same problem.

For whatever reason if the phone is turned off for less than a 30 minutes, this does not seem to happen.

Anyone have any clue what is going on?

They only solution seems to be to never power the phone off, which typically I do each night.

I suspect other Cosmos 2 phones have this problem but their owners do not notice because: 1) they never power it off, or 2) they make an outgoing call or text shortly after turning on the phone (which fixes the problem).  Users like myself who might not make an outgoing call all day could potentially miss a lot of incoming calls.  This problem needs to be correctly daignosed and fixed.

Other Cosmos 2 owners - power off your phones for 30 minutes and see if you have the problem as well.  If so please report the problem so hopefully Verizon will devise a fix.

Hello JoanCA,

I am very concerned about the status of your phone as this is not an issue that has been reported in our internal documents.  Please PM your name and cell # as I would like to look further into your account.

When i save a .gif to my memory card and use it as my back ground the image is animated but it moves slowly or "laggy". When using a default " Fun Animation" like the " Another World" or "Bicycle Trip" the animations are amazing they run so smoothly with no lag what so ever... I was wondering if maybe they are a different file extension or if there was a way to get the animations i saved to run as smoothly?

Maybe the gif has so much detail that the phone is not powerful enough to animate the gif smoothly when the gif is run as a background gif filling the whole screen -- but I say that assuming that a "fun animation" is run as a smaller image on the cellphone screen.

I took a quick look and it looks like there are three key settings that you could try changing to make the gif run more smoothly as a background gif on the phone:

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3035804

- reduce the image dimensions

- reduce the colors

- reduce the number of frames in the animation

There's also something that this person did in post #7 that maybe might be applicable to your phone:

I also have noticed that my LG cosmos 2 seems to have issues with charging.  I am a phone power user and am in the telecom industry.  My LG cosmos 2 can be plugged in overnight charging and still be charging in the morning.  In comparison my droid 3 with twice the battery size can be charged on the same charger in less than 2 hours.

I replaced the phone due to another issue and noticed that I still have the same charging problem.

Also the LG cosmos 2 is VERY picky on which charger it uses.  Even when using the included charger and cable I get the error message "please check if the cable is plugged in correctly or recommended for this phone"  Most other chargers, it doesn't even recognize.

That's Weird I just got a New cosmos 2 for 2 weeks now and I'm on my third charge and love it. This morning I was just telling my wife how fast this phone charges I had 1 line left and within 1 hour it was fully charged. I use the wall outlet to charge not the USB port, not sure which you use but good luck.
