LG Exalt bluetooth headset initiate call with phone flip closed

I am using the LG Exalt. I easily paired it and am very pleased with the bluetooth function.  EXCEPT when I try to initiate a call with my Jawbone ERA headset, while the phone is closed, I get this audio message, 'Command not supported with flip closed' Please tell me there is a way around this. This might be the end for this phone and me.
