Recently on my Samsung U-370 my screen has been locking when I am making a call. This includes voice mail and to automated systems like Walgreens. I do have under under Settings > Call Settings > Show Dial Pad all options checked. I even tried setting up my pharmacy's phone number to show the dial pad. If I push my unlock button the dial pad is out there for a moment but then disappears.
My wife has the same phone and hers doesn't do this. Any thoughts?
*Note: If I push my Speaker Phone button the dial pad stays out there. I can also turn off the speaker phone and it will stay out there.
Could you clarify and/or reword what the situation is ? It seems like you're saying there are two changes in behavior:
#1 -- the screen is locking up when ? During your dialing ? During a phone call in progress ? And by "locking up" you mean that during a phone call the screen won't light up again until you press the lock key and that the lock key is the only key that will make the screen light up during a phone call ?
#2 -- during a phone call the dial pad is disappearing ?
I tried right now to duplicate what is happening to you. If the screen is locking up while you're dialing a number, the only idea I have right now is to change/extend the amount of time it takes for the screen saver/dimmer to kick in.
But I can't find any setting that would cause the phone during a call to require the lock key as the only key to make the screen light up. During a call, as soon as a pull the phone away from my face then the screen lights up. And if during a call the phone is away from my face and then the screen changes from lit up to dark/dimmed, then pressing a key makes the screen light up.
As far as the dialpad disappearing, I turned on the mode to have it on all the time. I spent about ten minutes dialing numbers and staying on the phone during the call. So far I can find only three ways to make the dialpad disappear from the screen:
- in the upper-right part of the dialpad touch the arrow that points left
- in the middle of the last row of the dialpad touch the arrow that points down
- press the physical clear key that sits between the physical connect key and the physical disconnect key
I have an idea. If the accuracy of the calibration of the display is a little off, then when you're touching one of the outer numbers on the dialpad maybe the phone thinks that you're trying to press one of the two arrows on the dialpad. Perhaps you could calibrate the screen and see if my theory is correct.
Settings & Tools -> Touch Settings -> Calibration
I was going to post last night but I found the cause and the solution. The behavior that was happening was the face would go black as soon as it went to voice mail or any other automated system.
The cause of the problem was that I had placed a skin on my phone and covered the light sensor on the face. There was a small piece to peal out that unblocked it. I thought since the skin was for the Reality that the hole was for a port or something that wasn't on my phone.
I didn't have any voicemails or need to call automated systems so I didn't associate the change with the time. Once I removed the small cut out it started working correctly.
I was tipped off by the post about someone elses phone or screen going black during a call.
Thank you for posting.
I hadn't heard of this before, and I'm glad you posted an update so that I could make a note to myself for any future touchscreen phones that my family might purchase.
