Need help with Samsung Convoy

I recently got a new Samsung Convoy.  I cannot figure out how to have the front screen show anything when the phone is closed.  One my old phone I would push any button and the front screen would light up.  Basicially, I just want to be able to check the time without opening the phone.  I found nothing in the manual on this issue.

The only time the front screen shows anything is if I flip the phone open.

Next question. I somehow keep turning on call announcements "you have a call from 510 xxxxxxx" I don't know how to turn it on or off. do you?

Maybe you've accidentally turned on Voice Commands?  It's the button to the right of OK (just below the right soft key).

Also make sure you haven't accidentally turned on the speakerphone (on the right-hand side of the phone).
