Nice Basic Phone

I need a new phone.  I want to get a reasonably nice new phone.  I don't want to have to hit the key four times to get an "s".  The Verizon store had only flip phones---just like the one I have.  The only different possibility at the Verizon Online Store was a Pantech Hotshot---and everything I read about them is that they are a piece of junk.  I do not want to use the internet on my phone, i.e. I do not want a smart phone.  I want a "nice dumb phone".  A high quality phone with a good keyboard on which Verizon will allow me to only call and text.  Is there such a possibility?  With other providers?  Thank you.

Thank you for the reply.  The Samsung Brightside seems to be what I want

but is it a Basic phone.  From what I've read it seems to have data

capabilities.  Can I use it as a Basic phone?

Thank you  Jim

My grandfather is on my plan because he wants a phone just in case of emergencies. I recently gave him a Samsung Intensity III and he loves it.

I'd recommend paying full retail for this phone though should you decide to get it. It is $149.99 retail price, and while it is only $49.99 online with a 2 year agreement, should you terminate the agreement you face a penalty of up to $175.

A contract doesn't make sense if the termination is more than the full retail price of the phone.

I second the Samsung Intensity 3. It's rugged, the keyboard is great, and it slides smoothly. I'd also probably just buy it for $150 off contract.

The Brightside also has a great keyboard. It is definitely a basic phone and you will not need a data plan. One nice thing about the Intensity (and it's probably the same on the Brightside): If you decide you ever want to post a Facebook status update or a tweet, when you use the built-in app on those basic phones it counts against your text messaging plan.

Even basic flip phones have data capabilities. Just make sure you disable data on the phone when you get it. You can do that via your online account just t be safe.
