You can put a data block on the line if you don't want to connect to the internet. You can do it yourself via your on-line MyVerizon account, or call Customer Service and have them do it.
We have a Convoy 2 on our account and haven't experienced any quick text messages being sent, unless we tell the phone to do so. That's a new one for me if the phone is doing it by itself.
