Sprint is also CDMA. Maybe between the 2 carriers they would find there
would be enough people to make it worth their will to develop a basic phone
for the elderly and children

doubtful. Sprint's customers base is much smaller than Verizon and they have an even higher percentage of their customers that use smartphones over basic phones. Basic phones are going the way of the dodo. Ina few years all of Verizon's calls will be over LTE. Anyone making a LTE basic phone?
In a few years, there will MORE elderly/vision/hearing impaired who will want and need and deserve to have phone use accessible..Verizon needs to make more effort to accomodate
