Upgrade phone after contract renewal date has passed

Our 2-year contract was up in January 2014.  We want to take advantage of the $1 galaxy 4 with a 2year contract renewal.  Can we do that now that the contract renewal date has passed?  If so, how does that work?

You don't have a "contract renewal date", you have a "contract end date". All that means is that you have completed your contract and no longer have an ETF(early termination fee) if you decide to leave Verizon, nothing else. You can sign a "new" contract at any time after you have completed your contract.

There are several ways to do so. Go to your nearest Verizon store and make a purchase. Go to an authorized retailer(Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc...) and make a purchase. Make a purchase online from Verizon. Make a purchase online from an authorized retailer(Best Buy, Amazon, etc...). Call Verizon and make a purchase.

Keep in mind, the promotions/prices Verizon and other retailers offer are not necessarily the same and are constantly changing. Whether or not that $1 Galaxy S4(?) is still available, you would have to check.
