can not get names when a call comes in

My brother & I bought the same phone. The name of the person calling shows up on his phone but not mine. Is there a trick to this ?

The names and number will show if they are a contact; if they are not your contact, only the number will show.  The number needs to be the full 10-digit number, no leading 1.  And the name shown will be whatever name you have listed in your contacts.
