I used super glue to immobilize the down volume button after using the up volume button to set the master volume to the highest setting 7. I used regular super glue, not the jell type so that the glue would get around the button better. I used a very small drop on both sides of the down button so that the glue wouldn't get into the phone innards and mess up other stuff. Then I let the phone set for an hour to make sure the button was dry and wouldn't press in and get stuck in the down position. The only drawback with this fix is that the phone must be shut down to silence it. I left the up button free so I could turn the volume up if the stupid phone somehow decides to lower the volume on its own.
