Is there a basic phone with wifi capability? Looking for a phone for my 12 year old, he doesn't need a $30 or $40 month data plan.

The Kin models from a few years ago have wifi and can be used as a basic phone. There is nothing new out for what you are looking for.

Have you considered a tablet for the wifi capabilities?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

even if they could find a Kin they were pretty lame for trying to get on the internet and of course you couldn't use any apps on them. I agree with Ann just get them a small tablet.

How about a simple Ipod touch if he just wants something for games and email and wifi only. Mary

They still make those? Anyway you could probably get a decent tablet for the same price as a iPod touch. They haven't made a newer model iPod touch in 2 years.

My yes. Many young ones have them because their parents won't get them smart phones and a lot of my older friends have them. Much smaller than carrying a tablet around. Only other option is there is a carrier that does not require data on their smart phones so you can have talk and text for $35 a month and just use the wifi but you have to pay the retail for the phone is the bad part.
