Attempted to turn off Brightside.  Now screen only shows "Verizon Wireless" banner and non of the buttons work to activate the phone and display the home screen.

When you say "attempted to turn off" - do you mean cancel service?  Or simply shut down the phone like overnight, and then turn it back on again?

Try removing the battery, then reinserting the battery and holding the power button on for several seconds.

take it into verizon and have them send you a refurbished phone. Generally, refurbished phones are better than new ones because, they get all the problems fixed and make them new again.

I had an online chat with Samsung and this was the solution they suggested.  It worked.  The problem is solved, and the phone is working.
