Charging us monthly for a phone I paid off.

I had to replace my Motorola edge after the screen shattered, and the associate here said I could upgrade for $245. Paid him that, and now they're charging me monthly. Did I just pay the upgrade fee or something? Because I thought that was paying the phone.
