Verizon said they wouldnt auto pay january but they did

I signed up for autopay on january 12th. I specificaly brought the issue multiple times with the customer service representative that I would enroll in autopay, but that I would pay january's bill normally, not through autopay.

They assured me MULTIPLE times that January would not attempt to autopay. They said that the very first autopay payment would happen on feburary 30th, and that I would pay january as i normally do, by using a card online.

I said I didnt want to pay january's bill through autopay because I knew that i wouldnt have money in my account to do it on january 30th.

January 30th came, and despite the customer support agents assurances, verizon did indeed try to autopay my entire bill through my bank account, which i regret ever giving to verizon now.

My bank account had 49 cents in it at the time. My bank returned the charge, and charged me a 36 dollar fee, all because the verizon representative was either incompetant or lied to me so that they could get some incentive/bonus that verizon probably has that they get for enrolling a customer into auto pay.

customer support was indian and couldnt really understand my issue despite my best attempts at communicating it. there doesnt appear to be a way to actually talk to someone american who can understand.
