CBE Group Collection Agency

I  recently received a text and a notice in the mail from CBE Group, Inc., a debt collector, stating that I owe $61.76.  I immediately called Verizon Wireless and informed them of it since I have never made late payments and my balance reflects $0 due. They told me not to worry about it since there are no balances showing as due/overdue on the account.

HOWEVER, reading through this forum, it appears that if ignored, the debt will continue to increase due to late fees and will certainly affect credit score…

The ONLY thing I can think of is that in January 2024, we tried to switch to Verizon Fios internet after speaking with a rep at a Verizon Store who said that our address would be covered. We attempted to set everything up but were unable to connect. We ended up having a Verizon tech come out who informed us that our address is NOT covered. He took the equipment with him and confirmed that he would let the store/Verizon know that it was returned. We received email confirmations that our address did not have Fios coverage, confirmation that the equipment was returned with notice that the amount due would be credited to our account, and a final email notification that the internet line was closed and we had 30 days to reactivate it. We didn’t do anything since it appeared that nothing else was needed/owed.

I haven’t been informed by Verizon about any due/overdue payments for this but this is the ONLY thing I can think of that might be showing up. It’s frustrating to feel like there was no communication from Verizon about this prior to involving a collection agency, especially when their emails and billing details made it appear that the account was settled

I  would greatly appreciate moderator assistance with this to get this resolved. I would like to know who to contact to get it corrected ASAP  to ensure that my credit score is not affected.

Hello Adastra5, thank you for reaching out to us. At this time, your account has been written off. I encourage you to contact CBE Group to settle and close this matter. They can provide you payment options and, or payment arrangements available to settle this debt. They can also provide you with additional details on what the debt is for.

WHOA!  I just came across this after dealing with THE SAME issue.  I had an erroneous home internet box sent to my house; I returned it with confirmation and now have a collection letter from the CBE Group.  I am going to contact CBE group.
