Charged for returned phone

I received an offer to upgrade if I returned my iPhone. I returned it and now I’m being charged $250 for the phone.  Tracking shows that the phone was delivered to Verizon on 7/5. I’ve tried calling and messaging Verizon but everything is automated and not helpful at all.

The same thing is happening to me. I've called numerous times and now I was sent to collections. I don't know what to do anymore.
