Last April of 2023, my husband and I decided to switch from Verizon to Xfinity mobile. All of our devices were paid off and we were instructed that in order to proceed to unlock our phones, our last bill was to be paid and then lines will be transferred. We did so with the agent and then proceeded to transfer from Verizon to Xfinity. I then noticed that even after we paid our last bill, I was receiving account alerts. I contacted an agent in May and she said it was the final bill. I thought we had paid it but figured maybe I misunderstood and was willing to pay the last bill but asked if I could receive a paper copy. Still, I was receiving various "amount due" to where I wasn't sure which was correct. I contacted Verizon again in late June or early July of that year. We were then told that the billing was due to my son's iPad not being disconnected. We thought the agent assisted with the disconnection so we told Verizon to please disconnect and send us the final bill. I received an email but never a paper copy. Then around November/December, I received a collections notice from a third party. I immediately set up monthly payments to occur starting December 15th in the amount of $35 so that my credit report wouldn't suffer and have the bill paid within 6 months. I noticed the February payment didn't process. So when I contacted the third party, they stated that Verizon had "rescinded" the collections. When I pressed the third party collection, they were not being very helpful and said they could not answer any further questions. I assumed Verizon had closed the account until recently when my credit report was dinged. I looked into it and tried to contact Verizon who now passed it to yet another debt collector by the name of McCarthy Burgess & Wolf. I had not received ANY communication regarding this transfer nor had the opportunity to make arrangements so that I can prevent damage to my credit report. I am thoroughly disappointed that I have a balance in the first place due to miscommunication from Verizon but now I also have negative reporting in my credit report.
