I had received a proposal for a 2 year DSL/Voice bundle. There was no mention or consent on my end that AFTER the term expired, my contract would auto-renew for another two years, at a higher price - without my notification.
The agents all said 'the notification of renewal was on your bill' - but since I am on autopay, there is no need for me to scan the bill line by line. No communication was given that indicated my contract was going to expire.
None of the original quotes sent to me by verizon indicated that I was on a term renewal program, and I certainly would not have agreed to the terms if that was clearly disclosed. Even the terms and conditions are ambiguous at best:
"If a Term Plan expires, your Service will continue and automatically convert to month-to-month rates that may be higher than Term rates. If you subscribe to a Term Plan with automatic renewals, your Term Plan will renew after each initial and renew"
Where is the proof that I signed up for a term plan with automatic renewals? None of this was in any of the initial e-mails, nor was it disclosed to the agent on the phone. I kept all the e-mails.
I had to cancel DSL because of lack of FIOS on my area and I need the higher bandwidth. I considered my contract fulfilled, until my final bill has over $600 in early termination fees. This isn't ethical!

Contact your states Public Utilities Commission or Public Service Commission or Department of Financial Security which ever name they use and have them handle it. For contract renewals without your consent contact your states Attorney Generals Office again via a google search for your state.
can also complain to http://www.fcc.gov
