Device Promo Credit Question

Something similar has been asked before but not quite my set of circumstances. I'll try to keep it quick
My step-father upgraded his phone, to do so the store added a line which gave him the deal. They associated the new phone # with his old phone. The bill shows the device charge and credit on the new # / old phone (basically looks like we're paying off a 6 year old phone). His original line has the new phone (Galaxy) activated, no device charge/credit show on his line.
I got a Pixel 9 Pro today (ordered a few weeks ago), haven't activated it yet. I got a similar deal, $1,000 phone $700 credit over 3 years. What I'd like to do is use the new line since I moved to a new state several years ago and never changed my number.
Can I just activate the P9Pro on the new line, that currently has 30 months left of a Samsung Galaxy promo credit and is currently associated with my step-fathers old unused phone? I don't really care if it shows both phone payments under this new line that I'll be using, we all split the bill evenly.
This way, I can keep my old phone and old number and overlap with the new line, I hadn't changed it because I didn't like the thought of an immediate chenge. The new # isn't being used at all, so this is a perfect use of it.
I just don't want to jeopardize the monthly credits for my step-father. Thank you for the advice!

It is always good to know your options. In this case, you are able to activate a different device under the line, as long as the line remains active.
