Device buyout for broken phone

Looking for advice or direct customer service support. I’am being charged a device -buyout fee for an iPhone 12 on my phone plan. I have multi device 3 protection. The iPhone in question has a broken screen; a store representative suspended service to this device but my partner was unable to afford co-pay for the broken/damaged device. multi device protection not cover full costs for replacement or repair.. I would rather return the device in it’s current condition and be waived of buy out fees being forced onto our plan that affect two other parties phone lines due to billing.
