Equipment Charge

I upgraded by phone and I was supposed to pay around $100 a month, now my bill for December is $170 with a $65 equipment charge. What is this equipment charge because when I upgraded I did it initially on the app where it charged me $37 upfront for upgrading fee then when I went to pick up the device I had to pay an additional fee for the upgrade, I’m paying my phone in installments which is fine but what are these equipment charges ?
