‘Free’ phone - misleading

It is very disappointing that Verizon representatives mislead their customers. I was told I am paying $5 for the device plan and protection plan is included. Now I find that I am paying $17.99 per month for protection. Essentially, Verizon is covering the cost of the phone by overcharging me for protection. I wish the representative told me that clearly. I am bound for 3 years $23 per month for device, but only $5 goes towards the device payment. Beware!!

i am returning the phone. I would rather pay $40 restocking fees than pay $17 per month for  protection plan I don’t want.

hdeshmukh, while I always recommend having equipment protection, I can understand needing to meet a specific cost for your bill. I balance my features and perks on my plan as well. You certianly can remove equipment protection without needing to return your new phone. While I do suggestting keeping it for the security that it provides with coverage, the Verizon Protect is not tied to the equipment promotion. Our equipment promos are tied to the type of purchase, service plan, and if applicable trade-in you conducted. So, there's not a need to return the device if you're happy with your new phone.
