How do I talk to a person to get customer support

In a circular process trying to correct some things on my new service and can not find a phone number for customer support-- very frustrating. Hampton Roads area of VA

In addition to 1-800-verizon, you can try chat (option several menus down of Contact us https://www.verizon.com/support/residential/contact-us/homepage.htm), and twitter verizonsupport.  There is no email and open forum support.
