I would urge Verizon to be more upfront. Today, the discount offered on an upgrade to an Iphone, was exactly the amount of the cost of of the change to the ultimate service plan, which offers service which my family member did not need. So, the offer was a net 0 dollar savings. Why not just say you can pay for the Iphone over time. Dont offer me a deal, then take it back by making me pay more for the plan.
I find the complexities in the interactions ridiculously complex.
