TL;DR Verizon got me to switch to unlimited plan with promise of $40 loyalty discount. Chat agent messed up implementing and multiple calls/chats have been unable to reinstate $40. Also can't switch back to old 10GB plan.
I have been a Verizon customer for many years and tend to hang on to my phones and plans for a while since I don't need the latest and greatest and don't tend to use a ton of data. I had two lines sharing a 10GB data plan with an employer discount and one cellular apple watch. I paid about $127 per month for this (it was less before they started charging the extra $12 for the shared data plans).
On January 19, I received a Verizon text message offering $40/mo off 5G unlimited plans for my two lines. I was fine with my 10GB and very rarely went over but I did the math and my bill would be about the same or a bit less so I decided to go for it and switch my plan to get the $40 loyalty discount. After my kids went to bed, I started a chat and asked to make the change and have the loyalty discount added. Everything seemed good and the chat agent sent a link showing that my new monthly bill would be about $120.
Then he told me I should enroll in the teacher's discount plan as well and provided a link to click on.
I followed his directions and the teacher's discount of $25 was applied, which removed the $40 loyalty discount. My bill is now $135-136 per month. As soon as I saw what had happened, I contacted Verizon and asked them to remove the teacher discount and reinstate the loyalty discount. The first person I got told me there was no way to remove the teacher discount unless I quit my teaching job (!). The second time I called, the person told me they were putting a request in to switch from teacher to loyalty and it would take 1-2 billing cycles to kick in (spoiler alert: it didn't). I finally found someone who knew how to remove the teacher discount after ~4-5 calls/chats but now I can't get anyone to put the $40 discount back.
The last person I called put on a recurring $25 discount to replace the teacher discount that was removed but I'm still paying more than I was before except for April when the agent I spoke to on the phone that billing cycle felt bad for me and added a one time discount to get the bill back to what it should be. This was supposed to get me through to the next billing cycle when the $40 loyalty discount was supposedly going to be reinstated, which never happened.
I tried to get them to go back and put me back on the original plan but apparently no one can do that either. I *never* would have switched if I knew I was going to end up paying more. And I'm so upset because it was the Verizon agent's misinformation that messed up the loyalty credit in the first place.
I have all the receipts/screenshots but no one I've spoken to at Verizon seems to care. Now that they have gotten me off of the shared data plan they wanted to get me off of, there seems to be no incentive to rectify the situation. I should call yet again now that I've waited another billing cycle with no change but I'm pretty demoralized about calling and spending so long on the phone and having nothing change.

Same. They told me they fixed it twiceโฆ Thank you for explaining this so well. I donโt think weโll ever get our $40 discount back, but Iโm glad to know Iโm not the only one with this frustrating issue.

Also happened to me with the teacher discount. The whole thing is so frustrating. Luckily I took a picture of the "this is what your bill will look like" if you make all the changes we suggest when I was talking to the mgr. I'm happy to go to court over this knowing I was lied to.
