Never received final bill

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me or point me in the direction of where to get help. I cancelled my service back in April/May and was told by the representative on the phone that I would receive a final bill. Since then I did not receive a final bill, in the mail, or in my email. Instead I found out that I owed $102 to Verizon through a notice from Experian that there was a collections on my account. I immediately paid the amount due (which I had trouble doing as I did not know my account number which I later found in an old password safe.)
However, now today I got a notice that my credit score dropped over 140 points! I have 100% on time payments on my credit history and I had an 800 score before this happened. I would have never purposefully not paid the $102 bill!
Is there anyone that can help get this straightened out? This is absolutely unacceptable. I have been a Verizon customer since before it was Verizon! If I had received a bill it would have been paid immediately! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know how important it is to get a timely bill, especially a final bill, alazarides. Having just gone through the home buying process myself, I know how big an issue this type of credit hit would be. Since this account was already written off, there is only one team that can help; You can give our Recovery Operations team at a call at 800-852-3412, Mon - Fri from 7AM - 7PM CT
Otherwise, you can send written correspondence to Recovery Operations PO Box 650051 Dallas, TX 75265-0051.

Happy Wednesday! Our goal is to clear up all your concerns.
Paying your phone online is like processing a payment in person or by phone, hence, it prevents any financial issues.
Please tell us more, what exactly is going on?

Hi, I cancelled my verizon phone service and the customer service rep told me that if I had any remaining balance I would receive a bill in the mail for the final balance. I never received a bill in the mail, an email or phone call stating that I had a balance remaining or even a letter from collections! I found out I had a balance because I received an alert from Experian. I immediately paid the outstanding balance, but because of this my credit score dropped over 140 points! This is awful as I had a perfect credit history and if I knew I had this balance I would have paid it immediately. I would really appreciate some help with this as I do not feel that I should be penalized when I was not even aware that I had a balance with Verizon.

Hello, alazarides, we understand where you're coming from and know it's important for your credit report to be accurate. You mentioned you have been able to take care of the balance on your account. Do you recall when the payment was processed? Has there been a report to credit agencies since the payment?

Hi, I made the payment immediately on August 4th when I received the alert from Experian. All I see on my credit report is that there is a late payment from Verizon. Before this I had a 100% on time payments for well over a decade! There is absolutely no way I would not pay that and jeopardize my credit history if had known that I had a balance.
