My monthly bill just increased by $20 ($5.00 for each of 4 phones). It says it's an increase in "Auto Pay/Paper Free Billing". Thats a big increase. How can I get a discount.

Hi, yes, that was a recent thing for people on legacy plans. In a nutshell, the perks which used to be free on legacy plans, you now have to pay $5/month per line for them. I'm totally speculating here, but I think Verizon couldn't work in a billing provision for the perks on the old plans, so they had to tweak the autopay discount instead. It still beats the current plans, which have no perks at all and perks cost $10/month or more.
If you're being priced out with the increased costs, about the only things you can do are get others to contribute towards paying the bill, switch at least some of the lines to prepaid service, port to a budget carrier, or disconnect one or more of the lines. The other large carriers charge in the same ballpark as Verizon, so it's not going to be much cheaper to go to Blue Logo Place or Pink Logo Place.

I'm now seeing reports of even older plans that previously had only a $5 per month discount for autopay and paperless billing are having the discount reduced to $2.50 per month.

OMG...if the autopay has been cut by 75% for very old plans, wouldn't it just be better to get a current plan? Especially if it dates back to the days when call time was metered in minutes (and then carriers started letting you roll over minutes). I get that we're all paying for the use of the exact same network which has been upgraded a lot over the decades, but nickel and diming around with the fees doesn't look good to customers.

The very old plans never had the $10 per month discount. It was always $5 per month. If it has been reduced to $2.50 per month, it is just another incentive for Verizon to get people to switch to the current plans. Unfortunately, I'm not sure it is much of an incentive. I personally have one of those older plans that was always $5.00 per month for the discount. The thing is even without the discount and the added $2 charge they implemented a few years ago, my plan is less expensive than the the current plans with or without paperless discount for the number of lines I have. At the very least it is a wash in terms of cost.

I can now confirm my plan the autopay and paperless billing discount was reduced to $2.50 per month from the $5 per month it was before.

That's too bad. But we are all paying to use the same network, and the cost of living is always going up.

Considering I wasn't using the discount prior, it doesn't affect me personally. I might have been willing to switch to paperless if there was a discount just for that, but there was no way on this earth I would go autopay with this particular bill.

I am absolutely disgusted. You offer then decide you don"t want to pay for what perks you gave us while pigeon holing us with device credits for 3 years. Now you just shift the cost to us. I am going to the FCC. Your chat agent just ghosted me

I just had the same billing increase hit this month. A $5 increase per line for 3 lines. I have been a loyal Verizon customer for 19 years, and a stockholder. Latest Consumer Reports has Verizon almost dead last in their review of cell providers. It would be interesting to hear about the results of these private chats from customer service. I will be contacting T-Mobile to move plans.

They have priced me out. I will be contacting AT&T tomorrow. At least they offer a 25% military discount and I can pay $75 a month less for 3 lines.
