I'm a little nervous about something. I closed my Verizon account in September and was told I would receive a final bill in 2-3 months. Once I finally did I wanted to set up an arrangement, so I had planned to call back in January to do so. When I called, it looks like it referred me to a collection agency. I've not received any notice of collections, or even a follow-up phone call or letter from Verizon, so I was pretty alarmed. I'd like to know that I'm paying the right people, and that this information gets back to Verizon. I'd also like to not have a collection repoted to the credit bureaus. I have no issues with paying the amount due, but I really don't want negative reporting. What is people's experience with this process?

Have you tried calling Verizon and asking for the Ecenter?

I did try calling...when I enter my account information and hit the prompt to either set up a payment arrangement, or talk to an agent, it responds with the number for the collections and automatically transfers me...

If your account was referred to collections, then that is the right department. It would be a good place to start and see whether it was indeed sent there, and you can go forward from there.
